microsoft windows mobile

Microsoft's business plans in the field of Mobile Operating systems is undergoing vast changes to keep in pace with its competitors. It has been working out plans to suffice its wider customer base. Microsoft's forte is in its customized offering to its target customers be it the casual phone users market or the Enterprise market. So far, it has introduced six different versions of Mobile Operating Systems for Mobile phones and devices that are tailor made to suit the customer's needs. Whether the new additions will compete in the Industry is a question raised by many of the Industry experts and consumers.

First in the Microsoft's Phone Operating System, family is Windows Mobile 6.x. This version is soon going to end and second is the Windows Phone OS 7.0 which many of the OEMs are using currently. Thirdly, to cater to rising needs of the Enterprise market, it has introduced Windows Embedded Handheld 7 OS for the Enterprise handheld devices. Fourthly, for TVs, kiosks and similar devices, it has Windows Embedded Standard 7 OS. Fifthly, Windows 7 OS that serves as a platform of Netbooks and Tablets. Lastly, for the PC manufacturers who make non-Intel processors and less-battery powered slates and other consumer mobile equipments, it has plans to bring in Windows Embedded Compact 7 by this year-end.
One may think why Microsoft has different Operating Systems to offer and why not just one platform for all. It is because that Microsoft chooses to work on specific needs of its target customers rather than having the same platform for all. Moreover, having a generic platform for all is practically impossible. With growing needs of various Industries like Healthcare, Manufacturing, Aviation and many others, customization is required to some extent.
Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS is already running on many of the ruggedized computer manufactures like Honeywell, Motorola etc., With the innovation that OEMs likes Motorola bring in with their phones, there is need to power up the hardware with a suitable platform. Thus, Microsoft bridges the gap by offering end-to-end solution with its new versions of the OS. That said, Microsoft is going to stop providing Windows Mobile or the Windows CE toolkit to its OEM partners. Instead of that, it plans to include everything in the new Windows Embedded Handheld OS version, which is built on top of Windows Embedded Compact core 7. This provides rich interfaces and programs that enable building robust applications.
PC makers who manufacture slates or consumer mobile devices, and those who build GPS applications can use Windows Embedded Compact 7 as a platform. However, Windows Embedded Compact 7 is slated for release only in this year-end. In addition, Microsoft insists the phone makers that they can choose the Windows 7 platform, if they want to build applications for small-screen consumer phones that are used for consumption as well as content creation.
With Apple's iPad offering All-eggs-in-one-basket platform and Apple's rivals choosing Google's android OS, Microsoft faces a tough competition. While Apple and Google offering a generic platform with great features, Microsoft takes the path of customization to its customers and in time, we will know who will succeed and prevail.

windows phone 7 software update

Windows Phone 7 is here and what everyone has wanted to know, since the first showing in Barcelona, is how the app system will hold up to the competitors on the market namely Google Android and of course the iPhone. Windows Phone 7 apps are totally different from any previous versions of Windows Mobile, which means they are not directly compatible. To be honest, that was probably a smart choice by Microsoft even if developers will know have to adapt. Microsoft delivered a great OS in Microsoft Windows 7 replacing Windows Vista with an operating system that both looked and fealt great. With the new launch, Microsoft has finally picked up the glove in the mobile OS market and things are looking great.

Windows Phone 7 looks great and feels great, I don't think anyone can argue otherwise. The interface is clean and crisp. The best way to describe the interface is like a mix between the iPhone apps screen and the elements of Android. What sets Microsoft apart is that the tiles are actually live, they update and show information as they just sit there.
The main apps, which serve as the main 'hubs' are: 'People', 'Pictures', 'Games', 'Music', 'Video' and 'Marketplace'. The picture hub stands apart a bit from the others and allows sharing of pictures trough all networks, but perhaps the greatest innovation of the main apps is the 'People' hub. I don't think I have seen anything quite like for a mobile. It allows you to see and share updates on all your social networks from one easy to use interface. Very nice and very useful indeed for keeping touch with your friends.
Windows Phone 7 Apps are not restricted by screen size but can be zoomed and panned across, which is something that is currently causing Google Android a lot of problems. Score another for Microsoft.
Last, the games section is looking very promising. Just the mention of 'X-Box' is probably going to make a lot of people take note. Windows Phone 7 integrates with X-Box Live, so there is plenty of promise for games. As the Windows apps are made primarily with Silverlight, the graphics should really be outstanding. It will probably be some time until we can play Halo 3 on our phones, but there is no doubt that the future of mobile gaming will shift to smartphones and Microsoft has been clever to recognized this already.

macworld

What Does This Mean To You?
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the world's largest technology expo and showcases the latest (or future) products from thousands of companies, covering well over a million square feet of display space. As in every other year, it was held this year in Las Vegas, NV from Jan 8-11, attracting people from over 130 countries.
Bill Gates, the richest man in the world, and the most known name in technology, started the show with his customary keynote speech. He covered many subjects, including the new Microsoft operating system Vista and placed special emphasis on integrating home and work technologies.
Bill Gates was followed by many other experts of the tech industry with their speeches and presentations.
Macworld opened up with a keynote from Apple CEO Steve Jobs, introducing the long awaited iPhone - a unit that integrates phone, web, and the ever so popular iPod with a bunch of other applications (supposedly) running a Mac OS X operating system. Most notably with his rock star personality Mr. Jobs stole all the thunder from Mr. Gates and CES with the new "gadget" that is not even available to the public until the second half of the year.

This Apple iPhone is the most talked about "gadget" of the year so far, no doubt topping many wish lists. In the US, it is supposed to be available through the wireless provider Cingular with a 2-year contract for $499 (4GB) and $599 (8GB).
There are several European websites taking pre-orders without a wireless contract, sometimes topping prices of $1,200. Several law suits have been filed against Apple for copyright violations and some analysts say the original shipping date may be delayed due to this. There is a device, introduced last year, that won many awards and, according to many who have seen it, looks and performs identical to the Apple device.
We can learn a lot from this experience. Apple is known for this type of "minimalization". They understand consumer wants and needs, and their emotional attachment to gadgets. Their design is based on usability, and not so much on all the bells and whistles. They understand most people want their product to work and they want to feel good about what they purchased. They are also very good at finding out what most people want as features. Then they design their products so that a customer will have very little trouble using it. The product is then introduced to the market with an exceptional presentation creating customer evangelists.
With all the controversy, though, will the positive Apple trend continue when the iPhone hits the market?

windows phone 7 update date

The current smartphone operating system market is a two horse race between the Google-owned Android platform and Apple's iOS. Together, the two operating systems make up 67% of the smartphone OS market share. The RIM Blackberry OS is the closest competitor to the mobile giants right now, controlling 20% of the market. However, market research giant IDC projects that by 2015, Windows Phone 7 will not only compete with Android, iOS, and Blackberry, but will actually outsell the latter two and become the second most popular mobile operating system.
Windows Phone 7, often abbreviated as WP7, is Microsoft's smartphone operating system that provides an innovative user interface and a feature set similar to their home computer operating system. Released in October 2010, Windows Phone 7 has received mostly positive reviews. Specifically, critics have praised the fluidity of the phone's navigation system and the incredibly responsive touchscreen controls. Minor criticisms have arisen that claim the e-mail system is not user-friendly, and some reviewers were disappointed by the lack of multi-tasking ability.

Microsoft plans to amend WP7's shortcomings by releasing an update in fall of 2011 codenamed Mango. The update is promised to bring hundreds of updates to the OS, including improved e-mail, state-of-the-art multi-tasking, universal search, and innovative phone and social media integration. Microsoft also unveiled plans to introduce to the platform an HTML5-friendly Internet Explorer 9 along with Bing Vision, a feature that will allow users to take pictures of products with their phone's camera and receive info about them online.
The fixes and added features that the Mango update promises to provide are the major reasons for IDC's speculation that the sudden growth in Windows Phone 7. Some analysts have raised their eyebrows and doubt that an operating system which currently holds only 9% of the market will be able to increase in popularity and overtake mobile titan Apple so quickly. However, WP7 is swiftly growing and boasts more applications in its mobile marketplace than the Android platform did at the same age. Remember, skeptics also doubted the iPhone's ability to compete in the mobile market upon its initial release.
The new features Windows Phone 7 promises combined with its already spectacular and responsive user interface will undoubtedly sway some smartphone users into switching operating systems. Whether or not WP7 actually overtakes iOS and becomes Android's biggest competitor in the coming years, both Apple and Google should be worried that Microsoft is going to swoop in and seize at least a portion of their customers. The release of the Mango update could mean the smartphone OS market shifting from a two horse race to a three company showdown.

update my phone

I am a mobile professional and an avid cellular phone user for five years. The entire duration of my mobile phone using years, I can say that I've made a very close personal relationship with my phone. We studied together, played games together and accomplished a lot of work together. I can't simply imagine a life without my cell phone. Can you?
My cell phone has all the basic features that any "advanced cell phone user" will need. That simply means that other than the usual call and text messaging features, I am also able to go online with my phone using my pre-installed mini-browser. Since internet is enabled in my phone, I am able to update my social networking status, send and receive online fax and send IM messages. More than that, my cell phone also acts as my personal digital assistant.
However, there are still a couple of features that I would have wanted my cell phone to have. Of course, it includes:
1. Wallet feature - I want my cell phone to act as my wallet so when I go shopping, all I need is a couple of change and my phone. No more credit cards or cash because my phone will do all the paying for me. All I have to do is swipe it on the terminal and toot! Everything is paid for.

2. Cell phone Key - this is something that I see in most hotels and very rarely on houses. Doors are locked using electronic cards and I would want my cell phone to do that for me as well. Again, everything will be accomplished when my phone is waved at the terminal.
3. Child Locator - there have been various companies who have used this service. Two cell phones, one for the adult and the other for the child. All you have to do is open up your phone's web browser and using GPS technology, locate where you child is in real time. This would really be very helpful especially for parents as kids nowadays also demand their own cell phone.
4. Glass Camera Lenses - I am really fond of taking pictures as I love to document myself. I take pictures of everything that I see even the foods that I eat in different places. However, while my phone boast of high megapixels and the pictures taken are crisp, it's nothing compared to pictures taken with real glass lenses. The video recording feature is also awful as most offers 320 x 420 resolution that although taken with a 2 megapixel camera, is still awful.
5. Retractable Earphones. It's pretty a lot of work to have to untangle your headset, connect it to your phone and plugging them to your ear. A retractable ear piece would have to be the perfect solution for individuals who either receives a lot of calls or is fond of using their headsets as music players.
6. Unlocked phones - this is a dilemma that is being experienced by a lot of people. For instance, if you buy a phone with Verizon, and after a year, you would want to unsubscribe to your previous mobile carrier and get another one using the same phone. The problem is, you still need to have your phone unlocked. Why can't this be the norm?

windows phone 7 sales

Creating a successful business requires a lot of preparation, planning, research and a little bit of luck.  But the one characteristic of any profitable business, large or small, is that they have customers!  The legendary Henry Ford once said this: "It's not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It's the customer who pays the wages."  Makes complete sense, doesn't it?  So, in order to sell to, service and retain these customers, every organization no matter what industry or sector they are in has to first find customers.  The creation and success of a sales and marketing arm can thus be the main deciding factor to whether a company survives or is vanquished or flourishes.  The bottom line is, and had always been, that without sales and marketing, there are no customers or clients, thus no revenue.  It then stands to reason that with no revenue there's no survival.  So now that we're clear that sales and marketing are indispensible, let us review where they started, discuss where they are now, and gaze forward to where they are going.

A great author once said, "I find it useful to remember, everyone lives by selling something."  OK, how many of you guessed Zig Ziglar? (If you don't know who HE is, then you've never been in sales or are just completely not paying attention!).  How many thought Tom Hopkins (see above)?  Maybe not a sales guru, maybe it was the great Napoleon Hill, who wrote one of my favorites, Think and Grow Rich, right?  Maybe it was a movie character, like Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas' unscrupulous character in "Wall Street")?  You're not even close.  It's not even someone from the 20th Century, nor an American!  Would you believe it was the prolific Scotsman who penned Treasure Island in 1883, Robert Louis Stevenson!  So even before the Industrial Revolution, the importance of sales was evident.

If you think about it, even if you are not in the selling profession, you are selling every day.  Are you a parent?  Yep, you're in sales!  Trying to negotiate your seven year old to go to bed, eat their vegetables, or the myriad other issues that you face makes you a sales person.  Dating?  Oh yeah, sales.  You are trying to convince this person that you're the perfect, compatible mate for them, whether it is for that evening or a lifetime.  Looking for a better grade on a test in school?  Interviewing for a new job?  Pulled over for speeding?  You get the idea.

In olden days, we've heard many stories which make us laugh.  Like in the Old West, when men would travel from town to town in their mysterious wagons with "magic" elixirs, mysterious medicines, and even rainfall to drought-stricken farmers.  Ever heard the phrase "snake oil salesman"?  That's right out of the time the West was a lawless wilderness.  So the selling profession really didn't have a great reputation as a result, the lively and sometimes entertaining sales pitches were just as empty as the piggy banks these charlatans left behind.  It got a bit better after the turn of the century, especially with the Industrial Revolution.  Very common was the "travelling salesman" who went wherever he had to in order to make someone buy something.  While more reputable than their Old West predecessors, there were more than a few who found trouble in many different circumstances.  I'm sure you've heard the one about the travelling salesman and the farmer's daughter, right?  But these guys were the face of the company they were selling for, and it seemed that it didn't matterhow they got it done, as long as the sales were coming in, heads were turned.
What techniques were used?  Well, of course, being old-school you would have utilized such things as a fully stocked sample case, a really well maintained ledger, and a lot of shoe leather.  When the phone came along, it was a bit easier to call your customers and then go visit, but it was still up close and personal.  And marketing came in the form primarily of advertising.  Early times there were posters and other print media.  As communications media grew, so did the advertising realm, with catchy jingles on old radio serials, to the cute early commercials and direct sponsorships of shows on television.  It was just another way for the company to assist the sales professional in doing their job.  Of course, there was the tried and true personal connection that remains as valid as ever today - the personal networking.  Just as was the case back then, having someone refer you to someone they know is as valuable as a gold bar in the safe deposit box.
Not all techniques were as effective, and one in particular is still widely used today - cold calling.  It comes in many forms, from the door-to-door introduction to the often-used but rarely fruitful phone calling frenzy.  In the Sixties, the cold call was more the former, the guy knocking on doors, like the Fuller Brush Man or the guy selling Encyclopedia Britannica.  But as the telephone grew more popular and was in every house and business, the time saved by calling a whole bunch of locations while sitting in your office seemed to make more sense.  But in reality, it's a lot easier to hang up on a salesman on the phone than it is to slam a door on one at your business.  While some Fortune 500 companies insist their salespeople browbeat themselves into a quivering pool of Jell-O by banging out hundreds of calls a day, the smarter ones have either ditched the cold phone call altogether or made it a part of a structured marketing strategy.
Even with the archaic reliance on some of the old ways, the business world couldn't have foreseen the impact the PC revolution would have on the way sales and marketing works.  While there had been use of computers for inventory and more using "dumb" terminals connected to a mainframe, the personal computer or PC allowed more information to be processed locally by the user.  In essence, the mainframe had come to the endpoint!  Tools such as databases and spreadsheets tracked customer information, orders, even preferences, all at the user's fingertips.  But this turned out to be the tip of the iceberg, as the development of the Internet allowed for more and more connections and greater reach.  Suddenly, the magic world of electronic mail, or e-mail, would speed forward and leave postal mail in the dust as a way to send information to customers and prospects.  And with the advent of the World Wide Web, companies started to build websites to allow Internet users anywhere on the planet to see what they do or what they can provide.  And websites were not just for customers, they started to become tools for the smart businesses and their employees.  This was first custom built applications for inventory tracking, sales contact management, and the financial operations, like billing, collections and renewals.  I will expand on that later in the article.
This quantum leap forward with technology has spurred ever growing ways for sales and marketing to be more efficient and omnipresent.  In the 1990s the rise of the cellular telephone was looked at as a revolution in the way companies would work internally and externally.  But the initial devices were bulky and not totally reliable, requiring large bags to carry and frequent call drops.  But in the years since, the technology has rapidly improved while the prices and sizes of the devices dropped, and the access has become increasingly stable and reliable.  So much so that even the cellular companies could not have anticipated the widespread adoption across the general consumer space 15 years ago.  When my stepson got his first phone at 12 years of age, I knew that it was the end of that world as we knew it!  Go to a local mall and see for yourself if you don't have kids or are skeptical!
But just having a mobile phone was only the start.  The concept of "mobility" for the small to mid-sized business has grown from just the ability to reach and be reached on the phone regardless of where you are, but the infusion of other office staples like email that has taken it to a whole new level.  While office computers were more and more becoming mobile as laptops, the ability to use them away from the main location grew as well.  The development of the "virtual private network" connection, or VPN, made it possible for a worker to connect a computer by creating an encrypted, inaccessible tunnel from the machine to the corporate network.  Even that technology has improved, with the early VPN a software client on the PC that could be clunky and required frequent patching and maintenance.  These clients evolved to a more or less "clientless" version, the SSL VPN.  In this technology a worker creates that same encrypted tunnel, but uses essentially a web browser, requiring far lower overhead on the remote machine.
Sounds cool, right?  But now the remote sales or marketing professional has two devices to deal with and lug around.  So naturally the world of technology continued to develop and the "smartphone" was born.  Many think of the Research in Motion flagship product, the BlackBerry, with launching that revolution.  But in truth venerable, old-school IBM actually created the first version called Simon, shown as a concept product at the huge COMDEX show in Las Vegas in 1993.  BellSouth subsequently sold the device, which contained a calendar, address book, world clock, calculator, note pad, e-mail, send and receive fax, and games.  But the device with no keypad didn't fare well enough, and other companies tried to tap the market.  From Nokia, to Ericsson to the Palm, it was RIM's entry in 2002 with BlackBerry that truly combined email and phone functionality in a small enough package to be functional.  2007 saw a ramp up of the wars, with the release of Apple's iPhone and in 2008 with the advent of the Android open source-based OS.  Today, the BlackBerry user base is well over 32 million users, but is seeing competition from the latest iPhone, Android devices and the hard charging Windows Phone 7 handsets.  This number can go nowhere but up, with preferences each for the individual user and organization.
These devices are terrific tools, but applications that they access have become just as significant.  Customer Relationship Management, or CRM, is described as is an information industry term for methodologies, software, and usually Internet capabilities that help an enterprise manage customer relationships in an organized way.   A bit too techie a definition, I would simplify it to say an application that allows you to track and stay in close contact with your best customers and prospects.  From the early days of sales with a ledger, to the following Rolodex, to computer applications like ACT! and Goldmine.  Now, with Microsoft CRM on premises and hosted applications like salesforce.com, the functionality that sales and marketing needs can be found in one place.  Maintaining contacts, setting up reminders, sending email, logging quotes, even processing orders can be done in a self-contained system.  It's not a quick fix - it requires some skill and talent to deploy and customize these applications, but once they are set to your liking, the sky is the limit to what can be done.  And of course creating marketing materials?  With Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Publisher, etc., you can have every aspect of the project done, shared and approved; you just have to find the right printer!
One last thing goes well beyond the website to the networking tool of the new millennium - Social Networking.  Web tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter were created in the young person's world, but have now transitioned into the realm of business.  More and more, businesses of all sizes are leveraging the reach of these applications, and even creating specials targeted to those who subscribe, follow and/or tweet.  I believe we've only seen the tip of the iceberg on this, and the next decade will show even more integration between these forms of contacting prospects and customers and CRM tools.  No longer is hitting the local chamber of commerce networking event enough.  That stack of business cards is much easier to manage as a list of "friends" or "fans" and logged into CRM.
So the bottom line is, technology is a crucial piece to what sales and marketing is in today's business world, both large and small.  And to get more out of them, having a trusted technology partner or staff is critical to their full usage and availability.  Or, you could go find the guy with the plaid coat and cigar and hope that he can get those prospects to believe in you... about as likely as there being flavored water ice found on Mars!

windows phone 7 updates

We have recently seen the announcement of new operating systems from several big names in the mobile phone industry. The most publicised of these has been Apples announcement of the 5th version of the iPhone operating system however two intriguing new platforms have slipped under the radar. Windows 7 are rolling out an update to their relatively new platform. This "Mango" version of the OS offers some improved features over the original platform. Blackberry have also introduce the latest platform in the form of Blackberry OS 7.0. The first model to be rolled out incorporating this will be the Bold 9900 but how do the features measure up against Microsoft's Mango system.

From the two systems the Blackberry seems to offer the more comprehensive multi tasking experience. The features have been revamped to such an extent here that the platform really does rival Android in terms of user experience. Visually the user interface does not differ greatly from previous versions but in terms of functionality it is much easier to navigate around. An area that has seen perhaps the biggest improvement is the browser which has long been the downside of Blackberry phones. This updated version now features tabbed browsing enabling multiple web pages to be open at the same time. A new voice search facility works well whilst the whole web browsing experience is faster than ever. One thing this system and Mango do have in common is a lack of Flash support which is disappointing. Web connectivity on the Windows platform is spread much more evenly across all areas of the phone and not just the browser. The series of tiles that make up the homescreen have been improved so they can show you more information than ever before. A great example of this is the "People" tile which is integrated with your social networking accounts and constantly displays the most recent updates from your friends. This level of information on the home screen saves you having to physically log into your accounts to stay updated.
The Blackberry Bold 9900 and the new operating system benefit from the new Liquid Graphics system to make all manner of material look more vivid and react faster than ever before. This system is a form of graphical processor acceleration support and it ensures that images render faster than ever before. It also improves responsiveness from the touch panel screen which adds to the user friendliness of this model. Even with this boost the platform cannot quite match up to Windows for stunning visuals and the Microsoft phone arguably offers the best looking interface of all the systems available including Apple on Android. Windows 7 Mango will be available us an update for everyone who owns a handset running on this platform whilst unfortunately Blackberry lovers will need to invest in a new phone such as the Bold 9900 in order to take advantage of the changes.
Both of these system updates improve upon what were already good operating systems. Blackberry has the fan base and will inevitably prove a huge success whilst the changes on the Windows system will further enhance this newcomers appeal.
The Blackberry Bold 9900 and the Blackberry Playbook are coming soon.

windows phone 7 update 2011

For the past two years, clearly the best-selling tech item around the world became the smartphone, the device that conveniently places the Internet in your pocket. This week, it has been announced that Research In Motion shipped 14.2 million BlackBerry in the quarter ending in September 2010, narrowly beating Apple's iPhone sales. These are huge numbers for smartphones sales.
The best way to shop around for a smartphone is firstly, to select a carrier with adequate coverage and a price plan that fits your needs. However, if you're going firstly to select the best smartphone, you should start by selecting its operating system (OS).
Right now, you have five Operating Systems (in the United States):
  • BlackBerry's OS by Research in Motion (RIM);
  • HP's web OS;
  • Apple's IOS, the software for the iPhone;
  • Google's Android; and
  • Microsoft's Windows Phone 7;
1) Concerning BlackBerries, while carriers such as Sprint and AT&T already sell smartphones running RIM's upgraded BlackBerry 6 software, others (e.g. T-Mobile and Verizon) still have to make such adjustment. Anyway, BlackBerry 6 won't probably be around for long, as RIM will be using a newer operating system on its coming tablet computer, in early 2011.
2) HP's web-OS just got a major update, however the current lineup is badly due for a replacement, and apparently HP's upcoming smartphone (i.e. Verizon-first Pre 2) doesn't look like it will count as such. Web-OS also badly trails other operating systems in its selection of apps, though it remains better off than Windows Phone 7.

3) Apple's i-OS does multimedia, calendar and contacts organization and Web browsing better than all the others smartphones. It also has the widest selection of add-on apps. Its FaceTime video-calling software is excellent in terms of ease of use and reach on other smartphones. But the iPhone runs only on AT&T, right now. That carrier also locks every iPhone sold in the US against transfer to other services, limiting you to expensive roaming plans while you travel abroad. And the major drawback with the iPhone is its phone service, particularly the issue of dropped calls.
4) Android OS's major strength is its diversity, because every major US carrier offers an Android smartphone which has led to a good selection of hardware designs and prices as low as $0.01. And the choice of Android apps might be limited, but fortunately it is not subject to the sort of freaky control Apple exercises over its App Store.
5) Windows Phone 7 to some extent is an unfinished product: it is a decent Web smartphone with weak apps. And Windows Phone 7 smartphones are overpriced for what they do. And their current limited availability is a serious drawback: only T-Mobile and AT&T sell Windows Phone 7 smartphones, but other carriers should join them by mid-2011.
Obviously, smartphones running Microsoft's older Windows Mobile software should not even be considered in your shopping requirements, in 2011.
After you select the operating system, then you should choose a carrier that will offer you coverage and a flexible price plan. Right now, your best choice for mobile-broadband coverage are with Verizon and Sprint (2nd choice). AT&T and T-Mobile are distant competitors. Why? Let me give you an example: in 2009, AT&T refused to allow iPhone users to make Skype calls over AT&T's 3G wireless network. In 2010, AT&T eventually relented. However, Verizon Wireless offers more than twenty smartphones that are compatible with Skype, and about half of them sold with Skype's mobile app already on the smartphone.

best windows 7 phone

Windows Phone 7 (WP7) is a mobile operating system engineered by Microsoft, and is the next generation of their Windows Mobile platform. It launched in the US & Canada on November 8, 2010. Microsoft presents a new user interface with WP7, which integrates the operating system with other services, and plans to firmly manage which hardware platform it runs on.
Currently, the smart phone supports five different languages including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Like Apple's iPhone store, Windows Phone Marketplace offers buying and selling applications in 17 countries and regions around the world.
Microsoft Windows Phone offers an innovative user interface, which is code named as Metro, and is based upon Microsoft's WP7 design system. The start screen, also referred to as the home screen, is composed of "Tiles". Basically, Tiles are links or associations to features, applications, functions and separate items, for instance web pages, contacts, or media components. As always, users can rearrange, add, or remove Tiles. Tiles are active and dynamically update in real time. Taking the example of email, the tile for an email account would show the unread messages count or it could display a live update of stock market updates.
The default Windows Phone 7 user interface uses multi touch technology and has a dark theme that enhances battery life on OLED screens, as entirely black pixels don't release light. If desired, the user may prefer a light theme in its place, and can also select from several available colors. By doing so, user interface components such as tiles are displayed in the user's selected color. Other third-party programs can be automatically themed with these colors.

WP7 users enter text by the use of an on-screen virtual keyboard, which has a devoted key for adding emoticons. For convenience and ease of use; word prediction and spell checking features are supported, and users may modify a word after it has been input simply by tapping the word. Related words will also be recommended as alternatives.
When it comes to an internet browser, the Internet Explorer feature offers great interaction and allows the user to keep a list of favorite web pages, and display a tile related to a web page on the main screen. The browser supports tabbed browsing with up to 6 tabs, which can all load simultaneously.
Microsoft has stated that software updates will be available to Windows Phone 7 users through Microsoft Update. Microsoft has also developed software that will directly update any phone running WP7, instead of relying on wireless service providers.
Windows Phone 7 appears to have what it takes to compete and potentially win in the hard won smart phone space right now. The genuine advantage here is that Microsoft knows software, operating systems, and gaming, and it shows in the OS, visuals, and gaming enhancements. They also have the experience to know what works and what doesn't, and how to fix, edit, and update instantly. Will it knock the iPhone off its pedestal? It just might.
