windows phone 7 phones

In a smartphone market dominated by the iPhone, Blackberry and various Android offerings, Microsoft certainly has its work cut out to stake a viable claim on the market. In this spirit, it has recently released 10 new phones running its Windows Phone 7 operating system. These phones are manufactured by a range of companies - 5 by Android specialists HTC, and others by LG, Samsung and Dell. With so many to choose from, which are the best and what are their key features?

The HTC HD7 is one of the most eagerly anticipated Windows Phone 7 phones and it boasts a 4.3inch touchscreen, up to 16GB of storage and a 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording capabilities. Overall, it's a good phone with a decent-sized screen, although the display quality isn't as good as it could be as it's a little lacking in pixels. It features some good apps such as Notes and Photo Enhancer, but the build quality is a bit low compared to other HTC offerings.
Probably the most successful of HTC's Windows Phone 7 offerings is the Mozart. This comes with the excellent build quality generally associated with HTC, as well as a pretty impressive specification. It's a good phone that's easy to use, with a 3.7inch touch screen. There's an 8megapixel camera with Xenon flash, which offers excellent picture quality. It also has 8GB storage capacity, looks fantastic and comes with some good apps which are worth exploring, although these are similar to HTC's normal offerings.
Samsung has produced the Omnia 7. This comes with a good loudspeaker that hardly distorts sound at all. The main letdown is probably the dearth of apps available from Samsung. The 5 megapixel camera takes good photos although the speed of the focus is lacking. The power button isn't in the best place, but other than the build quality and layout of the phone are excellent. The main bonus is the high contrast AMOLED screen which is better than all other LCD offerings.
The LG Optimus 7Q gives you the best of both worlds in that it's (as yet) the only Windows Phone 7 phone to offer both touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard, although the addition of the keyboard does add considerable bulk. It comes with a 3.5inch screen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution, plus a decent 5 megapixel camera. The phone has 8GB storage capacity and good connectivity, which is a plus. Overall, it's a good phone but its bulk and slightly uncomfortable keyboard let it down slightly.
