Grab your helmet as Trial Xtreme 3 launches on Windows Phone

Are you a fan of trial games? Rushing through levels, pulling off insane stunts, watching the environment alter and/or be destroyed around you, while attempting to speed to the end banner in the quickest time possible can be quite the experience. Trial Xtreme 3, published by DeeMedya, has raced on to the Windows Phone Store with enough fuel available for hours of bike riding.

Reportedly accumulating over 50 million downloads cross-platform, it's positive to see the game come to Microsoft's mobile platform. If you're already a fan of the Trial Xtreme series of games, you'll definitely want to check out this instalment, sporting new innovations and other features. Did we mention that there are 112 courses on offer to run through?

As lightly touched on above, players are able to battle with friends' times and scores for the race title, while carefully controlling the bike to ensure their rider doesn't fall off when performing stunts mid-air. There are hundreds of mines, water pipes and even wrecked cars to navigate past.

Vine for Windows Phone

Vine for Windows Phone is now available for download

Updated 11:30 AM ET: The Official Vine app is now live in the Store. Link below.

Vine has today announced on the official blog that their Windows Phone app will be released today. Fans of the service have been left with little choice but rely on third-party solutions (6sec and Viner to name a few) while Vine looked at developing an official app for Microsoft's mobile platform. We covered an unveiling of the official Vine app at Nokia World 2013, but soon you'll be able to download the app and create some awesome short clips.

If you're not familiar with the service, Vine enables you to create looping videos with sound - think of them much like animated GIF images. The team will be releasing a product, which is in line with what's already available on iOS and Android. However, they have confirmed specific Windows Phone features such as the ability to pin favourite Vine accounts to the Start screen and we bet there'll be integration with the camera.

'Limited Edition' HTC 8X Windows Phone for Verizon employees looks hot

Verizon employees get a special gift this year, a 'special edition' of the HTC 8X Windows Phone in rare grey

File this under 'cool' as some Verizon employees are getting special, limited edition HTC 8X Windows Phones in grey with limelight yellow accent colors.  That’s right, not only do is it in a new color but it has that two-tone look from the 8S that people adore.

We don’t have word on which employees qualify for the ‘Employee Edition’ of the 8X but we certainly are a tad jealous and we would love to see that look go public. The devices are individually numbered (we blurred it out) meaning these really are hard to come by.

Sprint and Windows Phone 8!

Sprint still has cold feet with Windows Phone 8

With AT&T, T-Mobile and even Verizon reportedly on board with Windows Phone 8,Sprint is the last holdout for a major US carrier in supporting Windows Phone 8. While some of our readers erroneously entertain notions that the carrier will embrace Microsoft’s next iteration of their OS, we’ve been very cautious in agreeing.

In a recent interview on All-Things D, Sprint VP David Owens is once again pouring some cold water on customer’s hopes for a big Windows Phone 8 push this fall. The carrier has 90% of their late 2012-2013 lineup already in place but what role Microsoft will play in that in unclear.

Speaking to Ina Fried, Owens notes that they are interested in Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 but they may not be the leader this fall...

“The market impact of both Windows 8 and the next iPhone are also key factors that are a bit hard to predict, Owens said.

As for Windows 8, Sprint said it wants to be actively involved, but may not lead the charge. It sees some clear opportunities but is also mindful that its last Windows Phone, the HTC Arrive, was one of the more returned products in the company’s recent history. Owens said that many buyers of that phone were coming from Android and found Windows Phone’s unique operating system hard to get used to.”

If that sounds like Sprint is distancing themselves from Microsoft we would have to agree.

We do understand that carriers need to strategically think of their next move and having caution over a new OS is certainly warranted. But we think Sprint is going to miss the boat again this fall, leaving customers high and dry (or maybe underwhelmed with a single device release).

Here at Windows Phone Central we don’t endorse any carrier—it’s a personal choice mostly dependent on your wallet and just as importantly, your actual signal coverage. Still, although we’ve been a customer of Sprint since 2000 and are on the cost-effective SERO plan, we’re getting ready to abandon them soon and we suggest some of you start considering doing the same as the fall approaches.

Update: Another quote from Owens via Phonescoop sheds more light on the issue. Here, Owens does not commit to Windows Phone 8 exactly but notes that they will be participating:

 "We think Windows Phone 8 is a solid product that they are bringing to market. We're interested in watching it unfold over the course of the next year. And we won't be watching from the sidelines. We'll be participating. We may not lead it, but we'll participate."

To our ears that sounds like they'll dip their toe into the Windows Phone 8 pool but with only one or two devices.

Droid 4G LTE

The Droid 4G LTE arrives AT DISCOUNT!

Well, it took nearly two months after Verizon said the phone would arrive “in the coming weeks”, but the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE is finally here.

Luckily, the phone didn’t show up with the preposterous $300 on-contract price we first saw attached to the handset, nor even with a $200 one, but became available for just $150 when Verizon released it yesterday.

Twitter for Windows Phone

Twitter for Windows Phone updated with notifications

We’re really not sure why it took so long for Twitter to introduce support for notifications in its Windows Phone app. My guess is that they don’t think Microsoft’s platform has reached the tipping point yet, with a majority of smartphone users now owning an Android device or the Apple iPhone.

Anyway, it’s good to see the new version of the Twitter app hitting Windows Phone Marketplace, bringing the so much needed notifications to the table. Yup, this means your Windows Phone will now alert you in real-time on mentions, retweets and direct messages.

From the options screen you can select when do you want Twitter to push notifications to you – on mentions, Favorited, retweets, DMs and/or new followers. In addition, although there is no Live Tile counter, the Tiles do flip to show you new mentions or notifications in addition to the Toast alerts…

So if you own a Windows Phone you’ll want to update. It’s that simple.
