windows phone 7 software

It's not that long since Microsoft revamped Windows with their Windows 7 and made casual users and reviewers rejoice over the stunning looks and functionality. Of course, not many people understood all the changes done - and they were many - but the operating system did mark a highpoint for Microsoft. With the launch of Windows Phone 7 at the Barcelona Mobile World Congress, the world's largest software developer has finally gotten back in the game of mobile operating systems. The Windows Phone 7 series is a totally different mobile OS, written from scratch that should herald a revolutionary change in mobile operating systems.
What a lot of people want to know is how the Windows Phone 7 Apps system will work out? To be honest, these apps have the potential to be real iPhone killers. They just look so darn good. Microsoft has definitely delivered.

There are many reasons to be excited for the future of Windows Phone 7 apps. One nifty feature is that the apps are shown as 'live' tiles, meaning that they will continue to show content while in their minimized form and they look great. The main interface that makes up the apps is centered around hubs, for example 'office', 'pictures','games' and so on. You could call this the main hubs if you will. There's also the 'People' hub which is great for checking up on what your friends are doing. You can actually see all of your social networking news on just one screen, probably the most innovative social media creation for a mobile phone. The apps are unrestricted by screen size, which means you can zoom in and out and pan across them, allowing for a much more enjoyable and flexible use.
Of course, there are also the games and graphics and those may be one of the big selling points of Windows Phone 7. Windows Phone 7 uses Silverlight, the Microsoft variant of Adobe Flash and that gives Microsoft a leg up on competitors which do not support Flash, namely the iPhone. Graphically, this looks like a no contest. Silverlight has gotten a reputation for creating great looking graphics and it will be very exciting to see what third party developers can come up with. X-Box Live is also integrated into the OS, which promises some interesting possibilities. The future of mobile gaming belongs to the smartphones and Microsoft has recognized this. It will certainly be interesting to follow.

microsoft windows 7 phone

Windows Phone 7 (WP7) is a mobile operating system engineered by Microsoft, and is the next generation of their Windows Mobile platform. It launched in the US & Canada on November 8, 2010. Microsoft presents a new user interface with WP7, which integrates the operating system with other services, and plans to firmly manage which hardware platform it runs on.
Currently, the smart phone supports five different languages including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Like Apple's iPhone store, Windows Phone Marketplace offers buying and selling applications in 17 countries and regions around the world.
Microsoft Windows Phone offers an innovative user interface, which is code named as Metro, and is based upon Microsoft's WP7 design system. The start screen, also referred to as the home screen, is composed of "Tiles". Basically, Tiles are links or associations to features, applications, functions and separate items, for instance web pages, contacts, or media components. As always, users can rearrange, add, or remove Tiles. Tiles are active and dynamically update in real time. Taking the example of email, the tile for an email account would show the unread messages count or it could display a live update of stock market updates.
The default Windows Phone 7 user interface uses multi touch technology and has a dark theme that enhances battery life on OLED screens, as entirely black pixels don't release light. If desired, the user may prefer a light theme in its place, and can also select from several available colors. By doing so, user interface components such as tiles are displayed in the user's selected color. Other third-party programs can be automatically themed with these colors.

WP7 users enter text by the use of an on-screen virtual keyboard, which has a devoted key for adding emoticons. For convenience and ease of use; word prediction and spell checking features are supported, and users may modify a word after it has been input simply by tapping the word. Related words will also be recommended as alternatives.
When it comes to an internet browser, the Internet Explorer feature offers great interaction and allows the user to keep a list of favorite web pages, and display a tile related to a web page on the main screen. The browser supports tabbed browsing with up to 6 tabs, which can all load simultaneously.
Microsoft has stated that software updates will be available to Windows Phone 7 users through Microsoft Update. Microsoft has also developed software that will directly update any phone running WP7, instead of relying on wireless service providers.
Windows Phone 7 appears to have what it takes to compete and potentially win in the hard won smart phone space right now. The genuine advantage here is that Microsoft knows software, operating systems, and gaming, and it shows in the OS, visuals, and gaming enhancements. They also have the experience to know what works and what doesn't, and how to fix, edit, and update instantly. Will it knock the iPhone off its pedestal? It just might.

windows phone 7 devices

The Windows Phone 7 operating system from Microsoft has proven to be popular since it came out last year, and certainly provides a great alternative to the Android and iOS devices which dominate the smartphone market. The LG Optimus 7 was one of the first handsets released to showcase this software.
In this article I will take a look at some of the benefits of this operating system for users of the LG Optimus 7.
One of the first things users will notice about Windows Phone 7 is the tile interface. iOS and Android display their applications in blocks of icons, but the Windows Phone 7 interface displays them in a much more user friendly way; application and widget icons are very large, with only two fitting the width of the screen. As you can imagine, this makes it very easy for users of the Optimus 7 to find the application they need, and this was one of the main goals when the software was designed.
Another advantage of this setup is that live updates are displayed within the icon of certain widgets. So when you unlock your LG Optimus 7 screen, you are instantly presented with the icons which will let you know whether you have new emails, social networking notifications, missed calls etc. This offers the ultimate in convenience, and saved having to open applications to check whether you have any updates.

Of course there is much more to the LG Optimus 7 than just the operating system. Although this is one of its major selling points, the rest of its spec list is very impressive. A 5 megapixel camera with the ability to shoot HD video in 720p is included, as is an impressive web browser which allows users to utilise both 3G and Wi-Fi networks. An advanced touchscreen provides an interactive and intuitive means of navigating the user interface, at the same time producing spectacular display quality of the onscreen imagery. The LG Optimus 7 is a very versatile phone, a statement backed up by the fact that the features included as standard range from Microsoft Office compatibility, to Xbox Live which allows users to play online games using their existing Xbox Live profile. The handset also runs a powerful 1 GHz Scorpion processor with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset resulting in a speedy user interface, and all the computing power the device will ever need to run demanding applications.
There is a lot to like about the LG Optimus 7, and it is the perfect handset to showcase the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 platform. As an added bonus, the handset is surprisingly affordable and available on some great deals through various UK networks.

Windows Phone 7's marketplace just keeps growing and growing with Microsoft recently stating that they are approving 100 brand new apps to their marketplace every day. So are you getting in on the action yet? No? Well you should.
To kick start you off, here are five apps on the Windows Phone 7 marketplace which I highly recommend above all others. These apps are perfect for anybody who has just started out with a WP7 handset and also others who have had theirs since launch.
I hope you find them useful. Enjoy!
Must Have App #1: Angry Birds
I don't really need to explain why Angry Birds is such a hot app right now; in fact, it has been a hot app ever since it launched well over a year ago. Not only can I recommend it for its awesomeness, but I can also recommend it for it's constant updates and patches.
Must Have App number #2: Official Kindle App (who said you can't read on an LCD?)
E-reading is fast becoming a hot consumer choice for reading, so if you love reading books then open your app marketplace and grab the Kindle experience of well over 700,000 books. This app launched just a few days ago on WP7, and has hit over 28,000 downloads already.

Must Have App number #3: Adobe Reader (A substitute for flash!)
As of yet you can't get flash on Windows Phone 7 devices (you will soon though!) and so the Adobe Reader app is an okay substitute. It lets you open PDF files from web pages and email attachments seamlessly.
Must Have App #4: The Official (and real!) Twitter App
The Official Twitter app for Windows Phone 7 is a good overall Twitter tool. It carries across almost every feature of the iPhone Twitter app, and also looks nice with a rather clean layout and glossy finish.
So there we go! 5 almost essential Windows Phone 7 Apps (okay, so non are reeeeeeally essential) but oh well. Enjoy.
Must Have App #5: Official YouTube app (Mmm, shiny videos)
As mentioned above, Windows Phone 7 handsets don't do flash yet, and so the official YouTube app is an essential bit of kit which I personally wouldn't want to live without on a day to day basis. Covering the basics, this app will play any video you like, although the controls are minimal (but okay).

windows phone update

We have recently seen the announcement of new operating systems from several big names in the mobile phone industry. The most publicised of these has been Apples announcement of the 5th version of the iPhone operating system however two intriguing new platforms have slipped under the radar. Windows 7 are rolling out an update to their relatively new platform. This "Mango" version of the OS offers some improved features over the original platform. Blackberry have also introduce the latest platform in the form of Blackberry OS 7.0. The first model to be rolled out incorporating this will be the Bold 9900 but how do the features measure up against Microsoft's Mango system.
From the two systems the Blackberry seems to offer the more comprehensive multi tasking experience. The features have been revamped to such an extent here that the platform really does rival Android in terms of user experience. Visually the user interface does not differ greatly from previous versions but in terms of functionality it is much easier to navigate around. An area that has seen perhaps the biggest improvement is the browser which has long been the downside of Blackberry phones. This updated version now features tabbed browsing enabling multiple web pages to be open at the same time. A new voice search facility works well whilst the whole web browsing experience is faster than ever. One thing this system and Mango do have in common is a lack of Flash support which is disappointing. Web connectivity on the Windows platform is spread much more evenly across all areas of the phone and not just the browser. The series of tiles that make up the homescreen have been improved so they can show you more information than ever before. A great example of this is the "People" tile which is integrated with your social networking accounts and constantly displays the most recent updates from your friends. This level of information on the home screen saves you having to physically log into your accounts to stay updated.

The Blackberry Bold 9900 and the new operating system benefit from the new Liquid Graphics system to make all manner of material look more vivid and react faster than ever before. This system is a form of graphical processor acceleration support and it ensures that images render faster than ever before. It also improves responsiveness from the touch panel screen which adds to the user friendliness of this model. Even with this boost the platform cannot quite match up to Windows for stunning visuals and the Microsoft phone arguably offers the best looking interface of all the systems available including Apple on Android. Windows 7 Mango will be available us an update for everyone who owns a handset running on this platform whilst unfortunately Blackberry lovers will need to invest in a new phone such as the Bold 9900 in order to take advantage of the changes.
Both of these system updates improve upon what were already good operating systems. Blackberry has the fan base and will inevitably prove a huge success whilst the changes on the Windows system will further enhance this newcomers appeal.
The Blackberry Bold 9900 and the Blackberry Playbook are coming soon.
